Book Direct with the Owner at Derby Jetty with Accommodation Nelson Bay in Derby, for all your Attraction and travel needs.
Located north of the Derby town site, the jetty experiences the biggest tidal range in Australia – up to an incredible 12 metres. See massive tidal movements and be amazed by the power of the ocean at Derby Jetty in the Kimberley region. It’s a great place to go fishing but make sure you check the tides. The best times to visit are 2-3 hours either side of the high tide. You can catch mud crabs, catfish, shark, salmon and the occasional barramundi. While the water looks inviting, don’t be tempted to swim as salt water crocodiles are found in the area. The jetty has an interesting history. Its current structure was built in the early 1960s and replaced a wooden jetty from 1885. Back then it was used for the export of live cattle. You can see a pictorial version of the jetty’s history, the seasons, and wildlife of the area at Centenary Pavilion at the entrance to the jetty on a large mosaic tile floor. Here, you’ll also find seating, toilets, a kiosk and restaurant which opens between April and December. The jetty is lit at night making it the perfect place to watch the sunset. ...Accommodation Nelson Bay welcomes Derby Jetty in Derby WA, we offer an experience that takes you on a journey of a life time in Derby.
